IcoMoon →
This way cool little app lets you create your own icon fonts from vectors and from other icon fonts. Say you don’t want to use all the icons in a font collection, the browser still has to load the entire font. With IcoMoon, you can create an icon font just with the icons that you are using. Check it out.

Here are some video tutorials about laravel. They seem to be made for beginners and I appreciate that. I especially think that the one about deploying your website to different environments and the one about folder structure are rather interesting and useful.

Tools of a Kind
There are two web tools that I like to use together to figure out my typography.  It is not a perfect solution, but it can be quite helpful. Gridlover + Font Friend Bookmarklet Gridlover gives you some great sample text that you can adjust as needed and font-friend lets you try out what your web fonts look like in the browser as well as all the google web fonts. Give it a try!

Prototype →
This prototype is created with html5, scss, compass, javascript, and Zurb foundation. What is great about creating the prototype in the browser is that when it is done I can build the actual site on it. I does take quite a bit longer, but in the long run I think that it will be worth it.

Icon Font →
I have seen tons of icon fonts being created latlely. I have even turned a font that I created into an icon font for me to use on site. This is not the font that I created, but it is one that was created to go along with the framework that I am using. It is rather limited in it’s selection, so I may try another, but it will definitely work for the prototyping.

Launching Pad
Learning something brand new can be a real pain. I mean starting at zero. I should create a website that links to tutorials, books, and videos that start you at the very beginning of a topic. Say a person wants to learn how to code HTML, well they pop over the launching pad and click HTML and they get to choose how they want to learn … video interactive or written and off they go on an...

A new computer on the way...and it's a Mac?
I have decided to take the plunge and move to a mac. I really like windows, but it just seems as a developer, I could really use the tools that are created for a mac to make life easier. I have been kind of thinking about it for a bit now because many tutorials explain how to do things on a mac, and they don’t for windows.  This is highly frustrating. The thing that tipped me over the top is...

Updated Php
I updated php on my server last night so that I can run newer scripts. It was a bit scary. I thought I was going to break everything but, I only broke it a little, and was able to work out the problem myself using: <?php phpinfo() ?>.  I moved it up and down in my file structure to find out where the problem was and I eventually worked it out. YEAH!

Foundation: The Most Advanced Responsive Front-end... →
I have used twitter bootstrap in the past as a framework for my work. This is another framework, but this one is focused on responsive design. It does not have as many dodads as bootstrap, but it does use an interesting grid structure. I like the idea of using the new css3 box sizing. I know this means that ie7 would not be supported. I need to decided if ie7 is necessary to my particular project.

What is Object Oriented programing (OOP) in PHP?
I want to create my new project by using Object Orientated Programing, so I have done some research into using OOP in PHP. So, from the articles I have read and the videos I have watched, this is my explanation of OOP. Object Orientated Programing (OOP) is a way to group code together by a common theme for reusablity. You create objects that have attributes and actions similar to a physical...

Name Change
I have thought about the name Hissist and though it sounds nice when I say it, but others read it is sounds like they are hissing so I have changed the name to “Vitae”. Here are a few more brainstormed ideas. ...
